Qualifications for Martial Artists, by Martial Artists

Qualifications

“We should support people to access qualifications they need, not force them to take inappropriate and unnecessary ones”

A. Shi Kon Level 1 Coaching Qualification

This is a generic qualification for all Martial Arts coaches, regardless of the Art they practice. We look on the Level 1 as covering the minimum knowledge that an instructor should have.

The qualification includes;
Planning Martial Arts sessions
Coaching Martial Arts
Health & Safety
Martial Arts and the Law
Coaching children and child protection

This is a 4 hour, discussion based, course priced at £35 per person. It is also possible to licence Chief Instructors to deliver this course themselves “in-house” and pay a reduced certification fee per person.

B. National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) – Coaching, Teaching and Instructing Martial Arts Level 2

This qualification is nationally recognised and provided through City & Guilds. It is only available for certain Martial Arts, and Classic Coaching can offer this NVQ in;

Karate
Chinese Martial Arts
Ju Jitsu

The NVQ is split into 5 sections;

Deal with accidents and emergencies
Plan coaching sessions
Coach Martial Arts
Maintain and environment for people to improve
Review coaching sessions

Each section is covered by a separate evidence planning session, and these are followed by a minimum of two sessions where the coach is observed at work by an NVQ Assessor.

The Level 2 NVQ is priced at £450 per person.

Payment Options:

£200 paid prior to 1st session to secure your place followed by £50 to be paid on each session.

Standing Order Agreement to be signed prior to the first session to secure your place. 12 Monthly payments of £37.50.

C. United Kingdom Coaching Qualification (UKCC)

This is currently under development. When it is available, we anticipate being able to deliver it as an agent for the various Governing Bodies. You should note that the UKCC can only be obtained through a recognised Martial Arts Governing Body and is therefore likely to exclude any instructor who is not a member of a Governing Body.
